EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM DESCRIPTION SWAMPSCOTT PUBLIC SCHOOLS

The Extended Day Program offers a warm and nurturing program, which will meet the social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs of your child. While respectingthe individuality of your child's development. The program will foster a sense ofcommunity within the group, encourage learning between the children, and enhance your child's emerging social skills.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
• Encourage well rounded development through a variety of planned activities.
• Teach students to be a positive, responsible, and contributing member of their
community.
• Provide a safe environment as well as reliable and caring supervision during nonschool
hours.

Program Options

MORNING PROGRAM (Grades K-4) 7:00-8:10am

Arrival: Children must be walked into the Morning Extended Day room /area and signed in by their parent. Activities include crafts, as well as age appropriate games.  Dismissal: Students will line up and  sent to their school classroom at 8:10am by the Extended Day staff.

ELEMENTARY PROGRAM  Grades K-4  2:15-6:00pm

This program is designed to provide a safe and engaging environment for elementary school students. Students have an opportunity to do homework, participate in age appropriate sports, games, and creative activities, while learning social and emotional skills to achieve success in school and in life.

Arrival: Children will be dismissed from school at 2:15 pm. They are to report to Extended Day area/ room after dismissal.

Daily Schedule:

2:15-3:00pm  Play and Snack (Outdoor play weather permitting)

Snack: One healthy snack and drink will be provided by Food Services at the conclusion of the school day. The cost of snack is included in tuition and is not
refundable.  If a student chooses not to eat the provided snack, parents may send students with their own alternate or additional nut free snack.
An additional snack of fruit will be offered on an as needed basis to those students who stay after 4:30pm.

3:00-6:00pm (Schedules may vary from day to day and school to school.)

Indoor Activities: Included and not limited to, crafts, drawing, painting, books,
games, puzzles, legos, computers.

Outdoor Activities: Structured games included but not limited to, basketball, kickball, team games, 4 square, jump rope, playground games and equipment.

Homework: Students will work on their homework with the help and support of the Extended Day Staff. Staff will only assist students when necessary. Extended Day Is not responsible for the completion of homework and or/ accuracy. Parents need to check their child’s homework for accuracy and completion.

Dismissal: Students will need to be picked up before or at their scheduled time by a parent or authorized adult and signed out with authorized adult signature and time of departure. If someone other than the parent is picking the child up, permission from the parent is required, and the person must present picture identification.

Attendance: On an enrolled day that your student will not be attending, please contact the program before 12:00 P.M. by voicemail, email or text.

TEEN CENTER PROGRAM  Grades 5-8    2:20-6:00pm

This program is designed to provide a safe and comfortable environment for Middle School students. Students have an opportunity to do homework, learn life skills, andparticipate in sports and creative activities designed to achieve success in Middle School and in life.

Arrival: Students will be dismissed from school at 2:20 P.M. They are to report IMMEDIATELY to the Teen Center in the cafeteria where attendance is taken. If they are staying for extra help with their teacher, they need to call the Teen Center at  Ext. 130

Students check in and begin working on homework.  

Snack: One healthy snack and drink will be provided by Food Services at the conclusion of the school day. The cost of snacks is included in tuition and is non non-refundable. If a student chooses not to eat the provided snack, parents may send students with their own alternate or additional nut free snack. An additional snack offruit will be offered on an as needed basis to those students who stay after 4:30pm.

Outdoor Activities: Structured games included but not limited to, basketball, kickball, team games, 4-square..

Early Release Days: K-8.

This year our Early Release days will be centered on theme where students will participate in fun, engaging activities throughout the day  To include art, music, as well as indoor and outdoor games.

Tuition Fees and Registration

Student enrollment is for the entire 2016-2017 academic school year. Previous registration and payment are required to guarantee placement. A non-refundable $100.00 registration fee per family is due at the time of registration, as well as the first month’s tuition fee. Registration for students attending the first month of programming is due no later than  8/18/17. Your registration fee of $100.00 goes towards your first month of programming.

Behavior Policy

If a students’ behavior is consistently aggressive and inappropriate, and staff have utilized all appropriate interventions, and have documentation of incidents, Extended Day reserves the right to have the child removed from the program until he/she can safely return. Extended Day follows the Behavior policy of Swampscott Public Schools, which can be found on the school website.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Where do i need to call if i have a change in schedule?   Please contact the direct line at your child's school by text or call before 12:00 the day of the change.  if you are making a monthly schedule change please make it the last week of the month via email to the Site Coordinator at your child/children's school.   

If my phone number, email, address or person picking my child/ children changes what do i do?  Please contact your child/children's school Extended Day Site Coordinator or call or text the Extended Day line with changes in address, phone or email.  Pick-up permissions must be emailed  with the name of the person and phone number picking up your child to the Site Coordinator.  Please make sure that they bring id when picking up your child/children.  No child will be permitted to leave without proper id.

Can my older child pick-up my younger one at an Elementary School?  Only young adults 18 or older are allowed to pick-up siblings at an Elemnetary School. Siblings that are under 18 years of age are not allowed to pick up siblings.

Is there Extended Day on Early Release days, how do I know what days are Early Release?  Yes at the Middle and Elemetary Schools. The Early Release days are posted on the Swampscott School website.

Is there Extended Day on snow days/ vacation days ?  If school is not open Extended Day is not open.  If for any reason we need to close the Extended Day program after or before schooll you will get a phone call and email to pick-up your child/children early.  

if I need to get a message to the teacher about my child atttending Extended Day, as I had a change in plans once i dropped them off who do i contact?  Please email the teacher , and or call the school administrative assistant, as well as contact the Site Coordinator of the Extended Day progam in your child's school. via email, or phone or text the Extended Day number.

If i am going to be late for pick-up what should i do?  Please call the Extended Day line at your school.  Please refer to the payment policy regarding additional fees.  

How do I get my bill?  All bills are emailed to you on a monthly basis.  If you do not receive it please email the Director.

How do I pay my bill?  All payments should be made at the Swampscott School District website under PAY FEES ONLINE.  Please make sure to follow the prompts and fill out all information accurately to include your child/ children's school, what you are paying for Example: Extended Day Registration, and the amount you have been billed,  If you have a questions about the amount please contact us prior to paying your bill.
